Key West International Airport (EYW) is small, close to everything, and easy to get through. Most hotels in Old Town, New Town, and on Stock Island are a short drive from the terminal, so the question is not how far you are going but how you want to get there: with a group, with luggage, and at the hour your flight actually lands.
This guide covers every Key West airport transportation option, what each one is like on arrival, and how to choose.
How far is the airport from Old Town?
EYW sits on the southeast side of the island, along South Roosevelt Boulevard. Duval Street and most Old Town hotels are a drive of roughly ten to fifteen minutes, depending on traffic and where you are staying. Resorts along the Atlantic side are closer still, and Stock Island is a short hop over the bridge.
Because the island is compact, the ride itself is rarely the problem. Waiting is. A full flight can empty the taxi line in minutes, and a group of eight with checked bags will not fit in one car.
Taxis and rideshare
Taxis wait at the curb outside baggage claim, and rideshare apps work in Key West. Both are fine for one or two travelers with light bags. At peak arrival times, in season, and on holiday weekends, expect a line or a wait for a driver, and for a family or a group the cost of two or three separate cars adds up quickly.
The other catch is splitting up. When a group lands together but rides in different cars, the trip starts with everyone arriving at different times and coordinating by text.
Hotel shuttles
Some hotels and resorts offer airport shuttles. If yours does, check the schedule and whether you need to reserve, since shuttles run on the hotel's timetable rather than your flight. They are a good fit for couples staying at that one property, and less so for a group spread across rentals or arriving on a late flight.
Private airport car service
A private Key West airport transfer is booked ahead, tracks your flight, and has a chauffeur waiting when you walk out, with help on the bags. A luxury SUV suits couples and small families; an 11- or 14-passenger Sprinter keeps a whole group and its luggage together in one vehicle, so nobody waits for a second car.
It is also the easiest answer for late-night arrivals and early-morning departures, when taxi lines are thin and rideshare is unpredictable. Flying private? We meet flights at the Signature Aviation FBO on the field; our VIP and black car service covers the details.
Which option fits your trip
- Solo or a couple, carry-ons only: taxi or rideshare from the curb.
- Staying at one resort with a shuttle: book the hotel shuttle ahead.
- Family, group, or lots of luggage: a private SUV or Sprinter, booked with your flight number.
- Late arrival or very early flight: a pre-booked car, so you are not hoping for a driver at midnight.
Going somewhere other than your hotel first, like dinner, a marina, or a rental up the Keys? A point-to-point transfer takes you straight there at one flat price.
